• On 20 May 2014, General Prayut
Chan-o-cha, the then Commander-in-Chief,
along with his army who had remained
neutral, announced the Martial Law to end
the protest and violence.
• Then he called meetings with all parties
involved to seek ways out of the national crisis.
He later issued an interim constitution granting himself
sweeping powers.
• In August 2014, a military-dominated national
legislature, whose members were handpicked by
Prayut, elected him as the new prime minister.
This latest political crisis and mass demonstrations
lasted seven months from November 2013 to May
2014.
It once again brought Thailand to a halt with the hope
for its better and brighter future when a general
election is fixed, presumably by the end of 2017.
An elected government can be expected by 2018
