Other epidemiologic and clinical studies have similarly shown that childhood trauma is associated with the development of depression. In their study, Bernet and Stein administered the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) to 47 depressed patients and 41 healthy controls and reported that the depressed patients had significantly higher CTQ scores for emotional abuse, emotional neglect, and physical abuse. Interestingly, for the issue of comorbid depression in diabetics, Levitan et al reported a marked association of childhood trauma with co morbid depression and anxiety.
