Pavement Markings
Other clues that guide drivers are pavement markings. The rules regarding pavement markings are very simple. If the pavement marking is a solid line, no matter its width or color, then you are not to cross them. Crossing a pavement marking that is a solid line can result in a traffic ticket. There are five exceptions to this rule though. One, is when you are passing. Watch the animation in Figure 6 and notice that after the blue car passes the red car he pulls back into the right lane to avoid driving on the wrong side of the road. When he pulls back into the correct lane he crosses the solid yellow line. This is one example when crossing a solid line is legal.
