Contraceptive compliance varied by race, mental
health condition, and age. White teens had almost one
and one half more months of compliance than nonwhite
teens, 7.3 months vs. 6.3 respectively (

with coverage for less than 3 months, and the proportion
generally declined across increasing numbers of
months of coverage (
3 months, 37.9%; 4–6 months,
19.3%; 7–9 months, 17.5%;
10 months, 25.3%).
Whites were more evenly distributed across the months
of coverage categories, but they tended to a higher
number in the upper category (
3 months, 25.8%; 4–
6 months, 19.7%; 7–9 months, 22.4%;
10 months,
32.0%). These differences were statistically significant
