In addition to the type of symptoms being rated, low consistency could be caused by the
type of informants. Achenbach and colleagues (1987) pointed out that the same type of
informant, such as mothers and fathers, demonstrated a high level of agreement. Different
types of informants, such as children and their teachers, resulted in a low level of agreement.
Parents and their adolescents may be in a different position to decide if certain behaviors
would be clinically problematic.
