Concepts 'digital economy', 'information economy',
'information society' and 'knowledge economy/society'
are very connected and often interchangeably used.
However, the concept of 'information society'
substantially starting to be used as a unifying term . In
favor of this, some authors suggest that the term
'information society' is presented as a strategic objective
in order to overcome existing social stagnation. Central
argument is that the information society can create and
provide millions of new jobs; it guarantee economic
competitiveness; brings environmental benefits; intensify
democracy; revolutionize the way of life and work with
the help of new communication technologies.
On the other hand, some authors define the information
society as a society that is characterized by rapid growth
in the use of information - a society in which the quality
of life and economic development significantly depend
on the information and its use/exploitation, increased use
of computers, e-commerce and use of technology for
community development. In addition, there is also the
explanation that the information societies are the national
economy in which more than half of the workforce are
employed primarily on activities that are information-
oriented and in which the net product of these activities is
greater than half the gross national product .
