Attacks against IoT devices can be challenging for
manufacturers to respond to. In some situations, the
pathway to remediate the issues requires a hardware
upgrade rather than modifications to firmware alone. This
dynamic can expose enterprises that employ IoT devices to
attacks, with minimal ability to implement countermeasures.
Even in situations where a firmware update remediates the
issue, a new attack against—or vulnerability discovered in—
an IoT hardware device requires operations personnel to
maintain awareness of those developments and implement
mechanisms to respond.
