Overall, the nursing literature provides (a) a description of those individuals who tend to stigmatize, (b) insight into the experience and management of stigma, and (c) information about stigmatized individuals' preference for stigma reduction efforts and their preference for accessing mental health services. Only one intervention study
in nursing (conducted in the United Kingdom), Essler, Arthur, and Stickley (2006), successfully reduced stigma among adolescents using a schoolbased intervention. This intervention consisted of a mental health workshop (with a contact approach component) and theatrical drama.
