lee Lue never responded to his fellow pilot’s call for him to bail out. His plane burst into flame as it hit a ridgeline after being struck. Lt. Col. USAF (Retired) in “Seven War Stories” had this to say about Lee Lue, “Of course he was doomed from the first day he stepped into an airplane, he took terrible chances and had courage that goes far beyond normal.” General Vang Pao who directed Lee’s attack that day personally called for three days of no flying to honor Lee’s death.
