A Southern California council is to decide whether to close a popular hot sauce factory, as local residents complained of tear-inducing fumes.
Town mayor, Mark Breceda told Huy Fong Foods workers wearing "Save Sriracha" shirts, that he "loved the chili sause" but was asking the company for a few favours.
"It's never been this council's goal to shut this place down," Breceda said. "I'm positive we can resolve the issue."
Town residents filed a lawsuit late last year saying the smell of peppers was causing headaches and irritating the eyes and throats of nearby residents, forcing some to remain indoors.
The council decided to delay its verdict until later in the year.(Reuters)
