In 1984, O'Donovan et al. divided the developing
ovary of M. rosenbergii during intermolt period into
six stages based on timing of embryogenesis, premating
molt and oviposition, while the developing oocytes were
divided into five stages based on size, yolk accumulation
and follicular cell stage. The steps of oogenesis were also
classified according to the accumulation of a yolk protein,
vitellogenin, into previtellogenic and vitellogenic
stages
