5.4. Availability of resources and skills
The final process, ‘‘availability’’, describes the resource
and skill management issue in the process of ISO 14001
EMS maintenance. Here, both CSOs showed a considerable
effort that was put into acquiring new skills and sourcing of
necessary resources. Both CSOs were lacking ‘specialised
staff’, ‘time’, ‘knowledge of the legislation’, etc. Following
skills were identified as key for EMS team members:
- Environmental and legal knowledge;
- Common sense;
- Managerial skills;
- Enthusiasm for the topic;
- Organisational background knowledge;
- Administrative skills;
- Computer skills;
- Communication skills;
- Energy management knowledge;
- Auditing skills.
