It is apparent that the predicted maximum H2(aq) concentrations
varies with temperature depending on the Fe content of olivine. That
is, for serpentinization of olivine Fo90 the highest concentration of
H2(aq) is predicted at 322 °C, whereas the highest concentration of
H2(aq) predicted for serpentinization of fayalite is between 180 °C and
110 °C (Fig. 4). Serpentine can accommodate both divalent and trivalent
iron (as ferri-Tschermak's substitution, Fig. 5) in its structure
