NIRS Measurements. The NIRS analyses were carried outon a dispersive near-infrared NIRSystems 5000 (Foss InstrumentsInc., Rodgau, Germany) in the reflectance mode. Acommercial spectral analysis program (NIRS2, Infrasoft InternationalInc., Port Matilda, USA) was used to process thedata and to develop the most appropriate chemometric methods. The spectral data were pretreated with weighted multiplescatter correction (WMCS) to eliminate interferences of scatterand were transformed individually with first- to third-derivativeprocessing. The calibration program was set up with awavelength range from 1108 to 2490 nm using the partialleast-squares (PLS) algorithm. The optimum number of PLSfactors used for the individual prediction was determined bycross-validation (Martens and Naes, 1989). The accuracy ofthe calibration models is described by the multiple coefficientof determination (R2) and the overall error between modeledand reference values [standard error of cross validation(SECV)].
