STOP THE WAR NOW! has been a rallying cry for millenium against war and violence. This site was started around 2005 by a long-time American peace activist. Stop The War Now! was the name of a grassroots participatory DC group against the US bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999, as well as many other groups worldwide. (The peace symbol for that war, created by Serbians, was the target symbol at left.)
DawndcAfter the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks many of the same people formed a new grassroots participatory group but did not keep that name. We started the DC Anti-War Network (DAWN) which was committed to stopping U.S. imperialism and the wars on Afghanistan, Iran and the Palestinian people. We did a number of events and protests against the war lobbies. The group disbanded in 2007 as energy waned, activists moved on into more single-issue groups and sectarianism and personality conflicts flourished among the few remaining members. A number of its protests are described at this site’s protest archive page. (See also my photo page for a lot of DC protests of that era.) Other relevant material is linked at the Archive page.
I am moving all my sites to a more up-to-date format. I don’t know how much more I will do with this one. Hopefully there will be no more major wars to have to fight – just low grade imperialist breast beating to support military industrial spending. Stopping war will take the revolution. (See my site Secession.Net which hopefully when updated will be an important part of the nonviolent radical decentralist revolution that might finally bring us peace.) Check out the Old Main Page archive for some good antiwar rants circa 2005-2012 and the other archives as well.
More about me at my main site CarolMoore.net – which also will be spiffied up and updated soon.
