The goals for sessions 6 and 7 were multifaceted and designed to help participants learn and refine skills that would enhance the use of Rational Thought Process strategies (see Table 2). Session 6 focused on the skills of reality surveillance (purposefully identifying strengths and assets still present and formulating a vision of hope), stepwise goal development and goal redefinition, identification and nurturing of internal resources (personal strengths) and accomplishments, and the development of skills in the use of cognitive reframing techniques (using thought processes to reappraise, restructure, and transform threatening perceptions into a more positive frame). Session 7 focused on identifying and developing a plan for incorporating energy-enhancing strategies into the participant’s life, developing an appreciation for the richness of the present moment and day, and the nurturing of a sense of lightheartedness in the participant’s life.
