Therefore the aim of this study is to assess the validity of a tri-axial accelerometer in determining gait
characteristics such as gait velocity, stride length, and stride time when attached to the body as well as
when placed in a bag, pocket, hand or belt. Reference values for to gait parameters will be obtained
from a GAITRite instrumented walkway. Participants will be asked to perform walking under two
conditions: 1) continuous walking and in a circle for 2 minutes, with the GAITRite walkway placed on a 7-
meter section of 25-meter circuit; and 2) a short walk starting and stopping from the beginning till the
end of the GAITRite walkway.
