Glucose Control
• Goal is to maintain blood glucose in diabetics at
near normal levels
• Hemoglobin A1C (A1C) 7% or less
Glucose control is essential to the long-term survival and quality of life for the
patient with diabetes. New testing equipment has made monitoring glucose a fairly
easy process for the patient with diabetes. Providing this equipment to the patient, as
well as training on its use and frequency of testing are important parts of educating
the patient.
The Hemoglobin A1C is a newer laboratory test that has been determined to be an
excellent measure of glucose stability in the patient with diabetes. This newer test,
along with the trends of the blood glucose done regularly at home, will enable to
patient to have better glucose control and offer the patient the ability to participate
in the management of his or her diabetes
