Empowerment
In addition to supporting his nursing team by giving
them added responsibilities, the clinical leader supported
his team by giving them the chance to develop
personally and professionally. This supportive work
environment caused the nurses to feel supported,
appreciated and recognized. They reported having more
well-defined space to develop personally and professionally,
which contributed to their empowerment.
Some of the nurses verbalized these positive feelings
repeatedly. They experienced more opportunities to
actively contribute to the multidisciplinary team. They
discussed care-related matters with the medical staff
and therapists, whereas previously the head nurse took
responsibility for discussing these matters.
