Astronomers said Venus and Jupiter and a crescent moon will form a smiley face with the planets forming the eyes and the moon forming the mouth. Venus and Jupiter have appeared side by side in the evening sky for the past week but this Saturday will be the best night to see the face appear.
The phenomenon can be seen at around 6.44 PM on the western part of the night sky.
Stargazers will also be able to view the Earthshine phenomenon which is a soft, faint glow on the shadowed part of the moon caused by the reflection of sunlight from the Earth. Earthshine can be best seen during the crescent phases or the 1-5 day period before or after a New Moon.
On this occasion, the National Astronomical Research Institute’s planetarium in Chachoengsao Province will organize a free star-gazing activity for the public, which starts from 5PM onwards.
