Assuming that leadership has created a vision, an essential activity is to make the vision meaningful and doable for the employees who will implement the vision. Shared context, mission, objectives, and goals are required. In a knowledge-friendly culture, there is a collective awareness of what the organization stands for, what it is trying to do (mission and goals), why the organization is trying to do what it is doing, the purpose and how it will be accomplished. In high-performance Knowledge Management organizations, teams are passionately aligned on mission and objectives that include ongoing learning processes. However, goals and tactics might be individual and situational or context-specific. Cohesion and alignment within the team abound. The mission and objectives are considered a critical success factor. Within a professional team, there needs to be recognition of expertise and autonomy of each team member as well as freedom for each individual to develop his or her own process based on context. In a knowledge-friendly culture, there is an individual and collective commitment to capture and share knowledge at the conclusion of every significant project or event. A standard process will be available for learning after the project or event that assesses performance against goals and contributes significant learnings.
