Combining ruggedness with style and functionality with fashion the Casio G-Shock range is famous for being on the wrists of a wide range of people from astronauts to fashion editors. Few watches can claim to satisfy the needs of both Special Forces and the fashion conscious teenager but the G-Shock spans the watch wearing world.
1983 saw a turning point in watch history and manufacture when Casio created the G-Shock. The first G-Shock was the Casio DW-5000C designed by an engineer working for Casio named Kikuo Ibe. The popularity of G-Shocks increased rapidly throughout the 1990s. By 1998, 19 million G-Shocks had been sold worldwide.
The basic principle of the G-Shock range is to create a rugged hard wearing watch which still looks great and is feature rich. With shock resistant construction to protect against impact and vibration these watches are highly durable.
All Casio G-Shock watches are based on their Triple 10 concept. The Triple 10 Concept calls for a watch that is:
◾Water resistant to 10 bar (100m)
◾Will last for up to 10 years
◾Will withstand a drop of over 10 metres
As well as the triple 10 Concept the G-Shock is manufactured with the following features to ensure well dressed durability and build quality.
• Ultra Hard Case
Manufactured using cutting edge engineering techniques, the case is reinforced with steel rings and a heavy duty mineral glass adds to the shock resistance.
• Module Cushioning
The steel housing surrounds a durable polyurethane casing which is, in turn, cushioned by a layer of tough rubber. This acts to cushion the inner workings of the watch from impacts.
• Rear Seal
A special seal waterproofs the module, casing and back cover to different levels, depending on the model. Each model is extensively pressure tested to guarantee water-proofing.
• Stainless Steel Back Cover
The stainless steel back cover helps form a protective shell for the whole module.
• Bezel
The Bezel on the G-Shock is made from durable polyurethane to protect the display from even the hardest of blows
