The findings of our study have significant public health implications, given the high prevalence of obesity and adverse pregnancy outcomes associated with obesity and GDM, as well as the long term health consequences for both women and their infants. Our prospective study utilised standardised data collection with clear parameters for the diagnosis of GDM and accurate measurement of BMI, allowing us to confidently report findings of GDM prevalence relating to BMI categories.
