Recognizing the differences between production and transactional value
streams can be challenging. As discussed in Chapter 9, separating communication
from the process flow can be difficult, because many transactional processes
involve the capture and use of data. Understanding what is data being used in
the process flow and what is communication can be difficult for even the most
experienced mappers. Yet, proceeding into a future-state brainstorming session
with this issue resolved will greatly simplify the task of identifying solutions.
