Firstly, I must give direct reports the ability to provide comments anonymously or I will probably not get feedback that is honest enough for improvement purposes. If I only have a few direct reports or even just one, then I might consider including peers so that individuals can’t be readily identified. Secondly, I am following up. If I want my direct reports to continue to buy into the process and believe it to be credible, and then I must create a specific action plan to address points of feedback that are consistent among several raters.
