I am a primary school teacher and I love it. I am passionate about my job and believe that I am doing one of the most important jobs in the world - in no small way I am directly responsible for the future generation. In my opinion it is a very appealing career - every day is different as a teacher, I enjoy the company of the children in my class very much and I get to know all the children in my care really well and I can tell you that nothing beats the look on a child's face when they succeed at a task they perceived as challenging or looking at their 'best work' folio at the end of the year and seeing how much progress they have made in terms of their work. So you can see that not only is my job is fun but it is extremely rewarding.
There are other perks to the job. The pay is good, especially once you have worked your way up to the top end of the pay scale and the holidays are fantastic, I won't deny it, but teaching is not an easy career choice. During term time I am in school 8.30am until 6.00pm every night and I take work home with me at weekends too. The longer you are a teacher the more responsibility you are expected to take on at your school too, I am in charge of my school's Eco-Committee and a Probationer Mentor (in charge of helping newly qualified teachers through their first year of teaching) and both of these positions create paperwork that I have to do in my own time. But I love my job and would not do anything else in the world for all the money in the world. Even if I won the lottery I think I would still work at least part time as a teacher because I love it so much!
