4. Discussion
The policy interventions in this study are considered with broader
policy goals of Bangkok in efforts to develop sustainable energy
pathways. Some policies are consistent with government policies.
Some policies have cost savings, while others meet social or environmental goals. It is also important to consider whether or not
the policies can be implemented practically.
All of these considera-
tions were balanced with some policies that would cause long-term
change with in Bangkok energy system. Behavioral changes in HVAC
usage and in the use of lighting systems in commercial buildings
stand out as policies that have benefits from every angle (i.e.,
economic, social, and environment). Bangkok has long suffered from
traffic jams and high levels of air pollution. In the modal shift policy
the transport sector plays a key role in reducing both traffic problems
and local air pollution.Hence, these scenarios should be implemented
immediately. Nevertheless, together this basket of policies could
reduce the local pollutants as well as help to address global climate
change. If all of strategies on the demand side are simultaneously
implemented the highest potential of energy savings i n2025 is
expected to be 7947 ktoe.
