Attn: Pawat Phusrichan, Managing Director
We are nearly complete with review of costs and availability for components that will required for the dredge items we would supply and as we expected, we have learned from Caterpillar that the "Marine Auxiliary" version of the Model 3406C engine is no longer manufactured and will not be available.
We do however have good news. Although not available for use in the U.S.A., Caterpillar does offer a "Fire Pump" version of the same 3406C engine for export to global non-regulated areas. I have attached a copy of Caterpillar literature No. LEHW0129-00 describing the 3406C Fire Pump engine and you will note that the engine is standard with heat exchanger cooling and has similar features to the marine auxiliary version furnished for the last dredge P.S.I. supplied to Marine Department. Since the Marine Department's staff is already familiar with operation and maintenance of the 3406C, the 3406C Fire Pump engine is model we recommend for use on the dredge, provided it is still available when the tender for the dredge is awarded. We should point out that the engine has a broad range of power and speed ratings but would likely be set for a power rating of approximately 300 bhp (223 kW) at 1800 maximum rpm to match the design operating speed of driven equipment.
We would appreciate receiving your comments on our recommendation of the 3406C Fire Pump engine before we proceed with completion of documents for submission. You may also wish to review with Marine Department.
I have also attached a copy of our Technical File 28025 featuring the HPC-8ES dredge supplied to Marine Department in 2008.
We look forward to your reply.
