There are a number of behaviours that may indicate a person has low health literacy, although these alone do not constitute evidence of low health literacy. These indicators include: regularly missing medical appointments, ignoring or misunderstanding health instructions or advice, asking a number of questions or asking no questions, arriving with incomplete forms, avoiding filling in forms or taking additional spare copies, and making excuses about forgetting their glasses and needing to read the information at home (Weiss 2007).
