Figure 7 (d) presents an example of the overestimation error that could occur in
the VGT classification when the spatial pattern of the burnt areas is very fragmented
(i.e. has a high perimeter/area ratio). The error occurs along the edge of the burnt
patch that is more precisely delineated by high spatial resolution images, such as
Landsat TM. In this respect, the relationship between the misclassification error and
the spatial pattern of the burnt area may be an interesting aspect for further
investigation. Eva and Lambin (1998b) analysed in detail the issue of the spatial
sampling of burnt areas produced by low spatial resolution sensors in tropical
regions.

Gambar 7 (d) menyajikan contoh kesalahan terlalu tinggi yang dapat terjadi dalam
klasifikasi VGT ketika pola spasial dari daerah yang terbakar sangat terfragmentasi
(yaitu memiliki perimeter tinggi rasio / daerah). Kesalahan terjadi sepanjang tepi dibakar
patch yang lebih tepat digambarkan oleh gambar resolusi spasial tinggi, seperti
Landsat TM. Dalam hal ini, hubungan antara kesalahan kesalahan klasifikasi dan
pola tata ruang wilayah yang terbakar mungkin merupakan aspek yang menarik untuk lebih lanjut
investigasi. Eva dan Lambin (1998b) dianalisis secara rinci isu spasial
sampling kawasan yang terbakar yang dihasilkan oleh rendah sensor resolusi spasial di tropis
daerah.
