The cool evening air of autumn started to descend upon the forest deep in the countryside of northern England. Leaves gently floated to the ground creating a blanket of hundreds of shades of yellow, gold, and brown. The song of the night lark started to carry on the gentle breeze and the hoot of an owl could be heard far off in the distance. Sid loved to hear the sounds of the forest at this time of day. As Sid walked along the forest path he watched a squirrel scamper along the branch of a tree to feed on some berries. Soon the squirrels would hibernate for the long winter months, and then wake up in the spring. Along the trail an old fallen tree was giving new life to insects, moss, mushrooms and numerous fungi. Sid continued to walk along path, the crisp leaves crunching under his heavy boots until he reached the edge of the forest where he lived in his old cottage. For Sid, this really was a magical place full of beauty and wonderment.
