4.2. Conclusion
Despite the aforementioned limitations, the present study is among
the first to examine associations between AmED consumption and
patterns of alcohol dependence. Results suggest that AmED consumers
are more likely to engage in substance use and are likely to have
patterns of alcohol dependence. This study adds to the literature illustrating
problematic drinking behavior among consumers of AmED or
energy drink beverages (Arria et al., 2011; Brache & Stockwell, 2011;
O'Brien et al., 2008; Woolsey et al., 2010). Researchers, clinicians, and
interventionists with interest in patterns of alcohol dependence
may benefit from additional examination into consumption of AmED
beverages.
