While there are a number of social issues in Pathumthani, this research intends to deal with factors influencing teen pregnancy. The Pathumthani census of 1991 indicates 19 per cent of children are born to adolescents (under the age of 20). According to the Ministry of Health, this has been on the rise since 1989, which has seen a 24 per cent increase in births delivered by females between the ages 15 to 19. A study done by the Family Life Association in 1993 states 3 per cent of girls age 16 years and under had given birth to a child, and 17 per cent of all 17-18 year olds had already had a child . Accordingly, almost one-third of all women aged 19-20 had given birth, 13 percent of them had two children and 3 percent had three children. Amongst the 300,000 people in Pathumthani, 48.3% of them are under the age of eighteen‟ (youth program-cornerstone foundation Pathumthani . In a bid to understand the youths, it is necessary for the researcher to use the lens reflective of the teens of today. This research will try to identify the most influential factor that has led to an increase in teenage pregnancy within the Pathumthani. I hope to make recommendations that will best serve to minimize this problem and empower the young women and men of today so as to avoid early pregnancy.
