The BV was prepared and supplied by Chumdan Environment
Co. Ltd. (Jeollanam-do Deogwol-dong, Korea). Briefly,
bamboo culms were cut into various sections and were
carbonized in a ST1215 furnace (Showa Kikaku, Ø1200×
1500 mm) with a LPG burner. The carbonization temperature
was raised to 550–600 °C at ca. 100 °C/h for 5–6 h,
after which the heating was stopped and the furnace
allowed to be cooled. The BV was condensed by a watercooled
condenser and collected for the following experiment.
The BV contained 27.745 g/kg acetic acid, 14.63 g/kg
total phenolic compound (manufacturer's specifications, provided
by Korea chemistry association)
