The long-term memory of semantic information is believed to be organized as "a network of nodes and links between nodes, with the nodes representing concepts and the links denoting the relationships between concepts" (Bettman, 1979, pp. 42). According to Collins and Loftus (1975), each link has a strength relating to how important that link is to the meaning of the concept. The processing of a concept involves activating the node corresponding to the concept of interest with activation spreading throughout the network along the links. In other words, the activation of a concept (node) leads to the activation of other concepts (nodes) that are linked to that concept
