The home subscriber server (HSS) is a central database that contains the user’s IMS subscription data. The IMS generally uses the same database as the 3GPP access network to support
interoperation between the IMS and the 2G/3G circuit switched domain. However the two
databases could potentially be different, which would allow different operators to manage a
particular user’s access network and IMS.
