Sub: We’re tracking Well – CP & Veg, Phil saves $1.3Mn, Corn Sales Continue, Salesforce.com Launched; Welcome Novozymes & We Win for HR
Hello Colleagues,
I would like to start writing this message by highlighting our financial status at the start of the third quarter. Overall our region is still on track for FY14. While we track lower on corn GP with currency changes & continued focus in Philippines & Vietnam, our crop protection business continues its strong growth and vegetables met the March forecast, albeit we have a challenge on unfavorable import cost within the quarter.
There has been widespread rainfall across some parts of Australia leading to strong movement of Roundup in the market after a very dry season. Our team continues to monitor the dam water levels & is in final stages of enhancing our Cotton Choices program to share greater risk with our farmer customers to maximize the cotton acres planted in FY15. Also in ANZ, the veggies team incl. supply chain are maximizing efforts to secure additional volumes of spinach seeds to meet local market needs for baby leafy production in Q4. From the Philippines, the team incl. supply chain successfully ensured timely availability & market placement of Dekalb corn seeds shipped from Argentina avoiding air freight shipment & saving US$ 1.3Million.
In April, the APLT met in Philippines visiting the new Manufacturing Facility at Pulilan where we are processing RIB (Refuge-in-the-Bag) for the local market. It is impressive how the team implemented this project in a timely manner putting us at a competitive advantage with Filipino farmers.
To enhance service to our channel customers, better capture information on segments, key influencer farmers, track Demand Generation activities, & track POG data up to retailer level, we launched Salesforce.com in East Java - Indonesia’s largest corn market, for our sales team & dealers. We hope it will be available for wider roll out later in 2014.
I would also use this opportunity to welcome colleagues from our BioAg Alliance with Novozymes to our Asia-Pacific region team as we begin our long-term strategic alliance to transform research & commercialization of sustainable microbial solutions. To job your memory, the BioAg Alliance brings together Novozymes’ commercial BioAg operations & capabilities within microbial discovery, development & production with Monsanto’s microbial discovery, advanced biology, field testing & commercial capabilities. Now to partner to take it to the next level.
On FTO, as part of our reputation campaign, we (Monsanto Asia Pacific) nominated our work around people, & won Bronze for Best Workplace Practices at 2014 Global CSR Summit & Awards. This recognition from among 300 companies shortlisted for the 2014 awards marks the third external recognition won by our region in the first seven months of FY14. Relative to many of you, it is still early days for me in our region, yet I am proud to be a part of this diverse & vibrant team where I am finding that your passion for our purpose, collaboration, grounded approach, is very similar to other parts of the world – and is what makes us unique, globally. Please help us to share these stories of our company with broader society.
On people & development, we conducted training on Emotional Intelligence for People Managers, starting with Pakistan and Indonesia. I’d like to share that our March 2014 Pulse Survey showed an improved employee engagement index at 84. Highly engaged teams create remarkable outcomes & we continue to seek your input & ideas on our improvement opportunities to further strengthen engagement. I would also request each one of us to make the time to participate in the upcoming Organisation Survey, and the L180 to share feedback on our strengths & development opportunities. Your feedback is very important for our company, & so I request you to participate to the fullest.
We are evolving to newer ways of doing things in various parts of our region. It is all aimed at strengthening our foundation, & building platforms for long-term growth. I appreciate all your hard work. We are in the middle of FY14. Let’s retain focus on the key priorities, continue to enhance the creativity, connectivity & coordination, and we will put ourselves in a strong position to deliver.
My door is open, & am accessible via a call or email. I look forward to hearing from you. Your feedback, ideas, questions, concerns. What’s working. What we can do better.
Sincerely,
Juan
