Several parts of the equipment were damaged beyond recovery after coming in contact with the treacherous ground conditions.

The most significant loss was that of the whole cutter head and conical chamber. As can be seen in the picture, steel cutter head base was cut by the boulders in such a way that steel ribbons came out with the slurry as in a milling operation. The tungsten carbide cutting discs were broken off the steel base and the cutter discs bearings and bolts were damaged. In short, nothing was left intact.
