In July, I participated in a large international conference on traditional art and music hosted in Chiang Mai. Wycliffe Thai Foundation was given the opportunity to present three consecutive workshop sessions on the topic of orality. I worked with the Director to prepare and present these sessions. The content including introducing the audience to information about oral preference learners, cross-cultural communication issues including linguistic, discourse and other issues that can interfere with understanding, and storytelling as a cultural expression. One session included examples of musical and artistic features used in various styles of storytelling in Thailand. The sessions were well received with lots of audience participation and questions.
