Prejudice and Discrimination
• Prejudice is a negative attitude toward an entire category of people, such as women, ethnic
or racial minorities.
• It is often false definitions of individuals and groups.
• The prejudice often stems from ethnocentrism – it is the tendency to assume that one’s own
culture etc. is superior to others.
• Discrimination is the denial of opportunity and equal rights to individuals and groups
because of prejudice or other reasons.
