Since harvest just after the pre-climacteric respiration minimum
of the mango fruit is considered optimal (Brecht and Yahia,
2009), the development of respiration rates over the monitored
maturation period on the tree was explored retrospectively. Measurements
one day after harvest, when the fruit had adopted
the storage temperature (14 ◦C), ensured standardized conditions
needed for headspace gas analysis of the gas-tight-packed samples
(Kienzle et al., 2011).
