Time of payment
The time of payment of wages, like most other features, is a matter of contractual agreement or even customary practice. Many employees are paid one week or one month in arrears ("lying time"), while most workers are paid on completion of their week's or month's service. No doubt other variations exist.
Frequently, the time scale of payment will not correspond to the method of calculating remuneration. The most common examples refer to an annual salary which is paid monthly as a matter convenience, or to wages calculated at an hourly rate but paid weekly.
