Should we encourage homeschooling in Thailand?
Introductory passage:
- identify the background of education in Thailand, especially in primary and secondary school
- state the problems that happen in schools
Thesis Statement: There are several reasons why we should encourage homeschooling in Thailand.
First Paragraph:
Conveniences
- save transportation costs
*It is not essential to use any vehicle, including personal car, bus, BTS, and MRT, to bring children to school
*Parents have a role to plan the place where children will go as the excursion; it is no need to go to school every day which can create the transportation cost.
- save admission fees and tuition fees
*The admission fees nowadays are expensive. Some schools use the admission fees inappropriately such as corruption and school development in wrong ways.
*The problem of teaching in Thai schools create the high value of tuition outside schools, so it creates the tuition fees for the special courses.
Second Paragraph:
Curriculum
- flexible curriculum; children can study what they are really interested in
*The timetable in school nowadays is full of a lot of subjects, more than 10 subjects, which make students stressful.
*Flexible curriculum can differentiate children in terms of the favourite subject since we can know from this case what they are really interested in.
*Parents can know from homeschooling which field(s) that is/are being learnt well by children.
*Children are not required to study only in classroom
Third Paragraph:
Relationship motivation
- create higher level of relationship among the family members
*Parents have the teacher role to teach children not only in academic knowledge but also in ethical issues which can make children understand clearly.
Conclusion:
Homeschooling is appropriate to be opened in Thailand because of the conveniences which parents can save transportation costs and admission fees, the curriculum which they can freely provide and create, and homeschooling itself which can make strong relationship among family members. However, in order to make homeschooling effective in Thailand, parents should also understand the structure of education and required knowledge for daily life and future examination so that the children can be under the competitive advantage among any student in Thailand.
