The History of Containerization Foundation named former Traffic World publisher Stanford Erickson chairman. Erickson will lead the group as it strives to build on its celebration of the first 50 years of containerized transport.
"With a successful salute to the 50th anniversary of containerization behind us, the HOC Foundation is working on potential exhibition sites so that an international collection of this piece of transportation history can be accomplished," said former HOC Chairman Michael B. Berzon, now vice chairman. "With Stan Erickson"s broad background in transport and in journalism he is the right person to lead our 501c3 foundation in that direction."
He has been a member of the board of the HOC Foundation since it was founded in 2005. He is now associate publisher at the American Trucking Associations" Transport Topics Publishing Group and before that was publisher of Farm Journal.
He spent several years at the Journal of Commerce before that, as editor and general manager of the publication and as publisher Traffic World, its sister publication. He also worked for various business publishing firms, including McGraw-Hill. He has worked for transportation associations, including the Association of American Railroads and the American Trucking Associations. And he was vice president of Sea-Land Service, the ocean carrier that launched container shipping.
The foundation also announced Alan Clifford, executive vice president of Mediterranean Shipping Company (USA), joined its board.
