There are thousands of possible definitions of what psychology is and what psychology isn't, but one good definition is the study of emotions, cognitions and behavior. Thus, psychologists try to describe, predict, and explain behavior, cognitions, and emotions in order to better understand people. Psychology, known as the science of behavior and mental processes, is derived from the Greek words Phyche, which means the soul, and Logos, which encompasses the study of a subject. The literal translation of term Psychology, then,is "the study of soul".
