Fish are rich in protein and have high concentrations of MET, but there are few sustainable sources of fishmeal for organic producers. Organic poultry producers in the U.S. import menhaden fishmeal from Mexico [44]. However, wild capture of fish may adversely impact native fish populations.Bigheaded carp have had a devastating impact in U.S. waterways and outcompete the native fish species due to rapid multiplication. Their harvest may have profound impact on improving native fish populations and be beneficial to organic poultry producers as well. Bowzer and coworkers [11] extensively studied the proximate analysis, fatty acid analysis, and parameters for the silver carp in different seasons. Bigheaded carp meals have been priced inexpensively at $600–650/metric ton, whereas most marine fishmeals are priced at $1,500–2,000/metric ton [14, 15].
