what I mean with the comment is that you should calculate total root mass (coarse + fine + dead) for each plot and depth and then look at the distribution of roots in the upper 30 cm vs. the rest. I attach you the table for the PCA calculation, where I already calculated these values (perc.TRB). I think it is important to also mention this results, because there you can see, that oil palm has a deeper rooting pattern than forest plots. Perhaps you can make a larger combined table, where you out the mean values +- SE of each system and depth for fine root biomass, necromass and total root mass together. Please check, if it is possible, or if the table is too big. Then we can also move it to the Appndix, but I believe that showing the total mass is a key result for this paper.
Perhaps you can consider making a graph like the attached one.
