Man who was texting behind wheel drives off London Bridge and into river
A man crashed through a guard rail on the London Bridge into the Waters River in England after he was distracted by text messaging while driving last night, officials said.
Police said John Berry, 33 from England, will be arrested for dangerous driving of a motor vehicle and texting while driving.
John Berry landed in the river around 11:45 p.m. after he was texting while driving on Road 35 and hit a hand rail, causing him to swerve into the next lane of traffic and crashed completely through the Guard rail, said London Police Captain Adam Johnson.
“The guardrail was just completely torn off,” he said.
Berry managed to escape the car and make his way to the shoreline, and was transported to Beverly Hospital, treated, and released, police said.
His 2013 Lamborghini has not yet escaped the water yet. The British dive team searched the area but has not found the vehicle yet. The team will return to the river tomorrow morning to continue the search.
No one else was in the vehicle at the time, police said, and no one else was affected by the crash.
