Chapter 9 discussed the similarities between the current state in manufacturing
and transactional value streams. These same similarities exist with the future
state. If, for any reason, you bypassed Chapter 16, which addressed Future State
Mapping (FSM) in a manufacturing world, now is the time to stop, go back, and
read that critical chapter. Many, if not all, of the lessons learned are applicable to
the transactional value stream. There are subtle differences, but it is not possible
to capture a transactional future state without knowing how to map a production
process.
