Under the binocular microscope, mm and cm-scale sedimentary features, textures, color and HCl
effervescence were described and logged. The cores were then laid out and photographed in their core
boxes, and as individual samples. It should be noted that the water that was used to help increase the
contrast as well as clean the core occasionally caused the core to break up, so in areas that were very
fissile, isopropyl alcohol was used lessen the damage to the cores.
